This is the complex background activity that is guided by the idea of “progress, not perfection.” We are stewards of this planet and its people. From this foundation we strive to build incredibly fun and delicious coffee beverages that inspire you and bring a smile to your face!
Our Story
Our founder, Jake Anderson has worked in coffee for nearly 25 years — crafting drinks as a barista, then roasting, sourcing and teaching while continually inspired by how a simple bean can connect people. Decades of crafting traditional coffees, led Jake to the world of ready to drink (RTD) beverages where he started to wonder what coffee could be.
That’s where Coffee Squeezy began.
One summer, while drinking an incredible Ethiopian coffee — bright, fruity, sweet, and naturally citrusy — he mixed it with fresh lemonade. In that combination…something magical happened, it stopped him in his tracks! Think, Arnold Palmer…but made with incredible specialty coffee. Familiar, yet completely new at the same time. Fun, refreshing, and honestly super good!
He realized this was the kind of beverage the coffee world had been missing.
Now Complex is a small but growing beverage company rooted in a similar Ethiopian coffee, a partnership with a single coop seeking to grow together — quietly holding up the highest standards of equity and transparency.
Complex Coffee and Coffee Squeezy is our way of taking everything Jake has learned over two decades and creating something simple, joyful, and totally different. A drink that tastes like sunshine and feels like possibility.

Ethical Sourcing
Our current coffee from the Kayon Mountain farm in Ethiopia’s Guji region and features natural process beans, where the coffee is dried with the fruit still on. This allows all the sugar from the coffee cherry to leech into the bean, creating extraordinary flavor notes of passion fruit, blueberry, and black tea. It is a coffee that is complex, intentional, and respectful of the people who grow it.
As a small business, we view this as a time to build a meaningful foundation on which to build. One of the complexities of this business is finding ways to build our own business without exploiting others, particularly in coffee producing areas. We source our coffee from trusted partners that we have know for many years. Our goal is to pay coffee farmers more. Admittedly this is a squishy, moving target…but if we focus on progress, not perfection, we believe we can cultivate true impact.
